For auction houses, senior-move firms, and advisor platforms.
The Great Sort is an independent publication for readers sorting a house, a collection, and an estate. It was founded by Peter Hjortsoe. The full publication launches in 2027; the letter and the first guide are live now. We are new and we are deliberate about it — this page lays out plainly how we work with partners, and what we will and will not do.
Who reads us
People at the point of a decision.
Our readers come to us in the middle of the work, not idly. Four situations bring most of them:
- The executor settling a family home.
- The couple downsizing after decades in one house.
- The recently widowed reader working through what remains.
- The collector deciding, while it is still their decision, where a collection should go.
These are the people you want to meet, at the moment they are choosing whom to trust with the sale.
What we offer
Qualified referrals, and a way to reach readers directly.
- Qualified referrals. Motivated sellers and consignors, sent your way and disclosed to them every time. Every name we send is one we would call ourselves. Early on, referrals are few and deliberate; we would rather send a handful of readers who have genuinely decided than pad a count.
- Co-hosted webinars. Sessions run with a partner, where readers can hear directly from the people who would handle their sale.
- A vetted-partner directory at launch. A place readers can find partners we have checked, set alongside the guidance that points readers to the directory.
What we ask
The same standards we hold ourselves to.
- Transparent terms — fees and conditions a reader can understand before committing.
- Good treatment of our readers, whether or not a sale results.
- Responsiveness when a reader reaches out.
How referrals work
Disclosed, and never for sale.
- Every referral relationship is disclosed on every page it touches.
- We work on flat or per-referral fees, agreed in writing.
- We take no payment for coverage. A company cannot buy a recommendation, and that protects our readers and our partners alike.
